Mya Rose
folk

Born Sept. 4, 1979, Mya Rose has been gigging around the world since she was 16.....been singing since 3, and writing music since 7....from huge stages to street corners, from Korea to England, California to North Carolina to Florida, she propels forward to get her music heard. So many amazing musicians/bands in and out of her life...never knowing what to expect, never knowing where she'll end up, her life turns into a song, and whoever is there at the moment will leave an impression on the story...

Her musical career began with her guitar case out on the street corners of Seoul, Korea. After relocating to Fayetteville, NC, the band Slappin' Patties was formed and stayed afloat for 5 years with the album "Take Me Home" marking their pinnacle. Marching forward to her solo career, this vivacious songstress wrote, recorded, & produced her first solo album: "breaking free." Half of this CD was recorded on her sloop - a 30' O'day, "Risky Business", and the music reflects this, the ocean and seagulls can be faintly heard in the back ground. Some of her songs are about living free on the tiny island of non-corporate Ocracoke, NC, others pose questions such as 'Do You Want LOVE? OR Do You Want MONEY?' She just finished her 2nd solo album: "Sailin' South" aboard her boat studio "Burnett Trilogy", a 30' Pearson, in the Ocracoke Harbor, North Carolina, while living out on the hook in the O'day. Songs about living on your own island... by your own rules with a little bit of pirate chanting make this cd cruiser & traveler friendly.

Mya Rose, a full-time musician, has spent the last 4 years playing in the Outer Banks of NC. 2008 will be the last season spent on Ocracoke, and she will continue on with her husband, Bryan Gill, sailing and gigging from port to port from NC to wherever the wind blows. You can hear some of her tunes on 99.1 'the sound' based in Wanchese, NC; WOVV 90.1 / www.wovv.org 'Ocracoke Community Radio' based in Ocracoke, NC; www.artistfirst.com - an indie station based out of Ohio and random independent radio and internet stations around the world.

Her music is described as 'soulful vocals backed by rockin' folk with a hint of country'. All performances include mostly original music and a few covers, including: Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, John Prine, Bob Marley, Steve Miller Band, Ella Fitzgerald, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, ect. Her vocals and guitar playing comes from deep within her soul. She strives to voice a difference, while her lyrics tease the conscience, make listeners think, smile, laugh and dance. She challenges everyone to be the best that they can be. Imagine this world if everyone believed in themselves and offered their gifts to the world? Make a difference!!
