About efolkMusic

efolkMusic is a free guide to traditional folk music: the songs, the instruments, the genres and the artists.

A new site with an old name

From 2000 to about 2016, efolkmusic.org was home to efolkMusic, a nonprofit that helped independent folk, bluegrass, Celtic and roots artists sell and share their music. It featured hundreds of artists, published a "Folk-Zine," and ran a folk radio page and a forum. We admire what it did for musicians who got little support from the mainstream music business.

We are not that organization. The domain lapsed, and in 2026 we acquired it and started this site from scratch. None of the original site's text or recordings are reused here. What we have kept is the spirit: helping people find, understand and play folk music.

What we publish

• Song histories: where traditional songs came from, what they mean, and how to play them.
• Instrument guides: practical introductions for beginners.
• Genre and artist profiles: who to listen to, and why.

How we work

Dates, recordings and chart facts are checked against published sources before a page goes up. We print song lyrics only when they are in the public domain. If you spot a mistake, please tell us and we will fix it.

Some pages may include affiliate links to instruments or lessons. They never change what we write; see our affiliate disclosure.
